Tina Fey new comedy series a hit on Netflix

Comedic minds behind 30 Rock Robert Catlock and Tina Fey are back with another comedy show on Netflix. “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” is a new 13-episode comedy that was originally created for NBC but the network dropped the show. Netflix has picked the series for two seasons.

The series current score on Rotten Tomatoes is 93% and it stars Bridesmaids Ellie Kemper as the title character. The series follows 29 year old Kimmy as she tries to adjust herself to society after she was rescued from an apocalypse cult that had held her for 15 years.

Kemper shares her first reaction when she was told about the series by Fey and Carlock. “We sat down to dinner and they said, ‘Okay well we did come up with an idea for this comedy. You are a young lady who has been tapped in a bunker for fifteen years, and you’ve just escaped.’ And so I thought, ‘I don’t know… are you… uh, really?’… I think it was a risk, but I think that we all did the job correctly. And I hope that people appreciate and like the finished version. Something that I already knew but that was reinforced is that bad things happen in the world, and the answer is not to shy away from them, but to address them.”

Tituss Burgess co-stars as Kimmy’s gay, roommate who is an aspiring actor. “It’s kind of the least of the things they play up,” Burgess says. “It’s more his entitlement, his delusional way of thinking, in terms of thinking he should be a star.”

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt started streaming on Netflix on March 6th.
